What is it?
The Take World is a writing retreat for black women, global majority women and and non-binary POC. It’s a five day experience for writers of any genre or discipline, twice a year, in April and September. With talks from authors such as Bernadine Evaristo, Nikesh Shukla, Kai Harris, Nicole Dennis-Benn, Abigail Bergstrom, Ore Agbaje-Williams and Lizzie Damilola Blackburn, workshops and craft time in a secluded, gorgeous house, plus chef-prepped lunches, hikes and daily yoga in Sintra, 35 mins from Lisbon, Take World is a good time.
Our next retreat for black women and global majority women and non-binary POC will be Sep 27-Oct 2. We also offer a funded Fellowship for one writer in the form of the Shay Youngblood Fellowship which is now open.

Where is it?
Set in a charming and secluded house near Sintra, 30 minutes from Lisbon. Sintra is a place of lush mountains and mythical legend, It’s the home of former Portuguese nobility and a location that inspired writers like Hans Christian Andersen. It’s green, gorgeous and serene; the perfect place to get totally lost in your creative project.
Who is it for?
The Take World writing retreat for black women, women of colour and non-binary POC is suitable for writers and creatives of any age and writing experience. We welcome all disciplines and career backgrounds. We have hosted published authors poets, PhD candidates and total beginners. We have those who use he retreat as a springboard to start a writing project, and others who are completing books on contract. Just be curious, respectful and bring the vibes!

A serene space to crack on with your creative project. A like-minded group to cheer you on and offer feedback. Informative workshops led by interesting people. Activities to spark joy and creativity. Accountability. Some seriously good Portuguese cuisine. A cute and tailored goodie bag!
Sounds good. What’s included?
All writing workshops and activities. All breakfasts and lunches, plus opening and closing dinners. Lunches are catered and prepared fresh in-house each day by our local chef. Attendees enjoy welcome and farewell dinners as well as a writing and reflection to a gorgeous local beach, daily yoga and a special Take World goodie bag. I’m sold… but who runs this thing?
Georgina Lawton, a Lisbon resident and London runaway who is also an award-winning author of two books, travel writer, journalist and Audible podcaster. The award-winning journalist and author Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff is a part-time co-host. Several authors and writers have also attended. Find out more about Georgina and Charlie here.
