Don’t just take our world for how great Take World is. Check out the reviews from some of our former attendees as well.
This video is from Amina, a publisher and poet from New York City, who attended our 2025 Autumn cohort.
We also have some nice words from author Elizabeth Damilola Blackburn, below, who attended Take World as our guest speaker in 2026.
“When I was offered the opportunity to attend Take World Lisbon as a guest author, I jumped on it. What better way to work on my third novel than in a relaxed, sunny environment surrounded by other women of colour? The experience really blew me away. The villa is big and cosy, with plenty of spaces to write, and there’s a pool, plus optional activities like yoga and hikes to the beach if you want them. It struck the perfect balance between writing and unwinding, which was exactly what I needed after months of working on my manuscript.
Georgina, the host, is fantastic—so approachable and on it—and she really created a positive, safe atmosphere where everyone could just be, with no pressure to be anything other than themselves.
There were so many highlights. I got helpful, reassuring feedback on my excerpt and I actually wrote the end of my manuscript while I was there, which was a huge personal achievement. I also made connections with such talented writers from across the world—people I genuinely hope to stay in touch with.
As a mum juggling writing alongside looking after a two-year-old, I arrived on the brink of burnout but left feeling nurtured, inspired, and refreshed. I’d highly recommend the retreat to any writer who needs a fresh space to write, think, and fill their cup.”

“As someone who had dreamed of going on a writing retreat for years, Take World was everything I had hoped for and more: beautiful location, great food, a fantastic group of fellow writers, and every day planned with such care and intention.
It was so nice to have structure with the morning yoga, group lunch, and daily workshops, but also the freedom to spend hours, poolside writing, if I wanted.
Being in community with other creative, unapologetic Black women writers energized me in a way I’ve rarely gotten to experience. I truly had the best time, and I’m planning to make attending Take World a yearly part of my writing practice.”

“The retreat was a slice of paradise. It was the perfect place to take a deep dive into my first writing project and connect with other fascinating women on their own creative journeys.
The workshops and discussions were so inspirational; I couldn't have asked for a better environment to unlock the story I'd had in mind for so long. Georgina and Charlie struck the perfect balance between extended writing time and structured sessions, it was clear everyone got so much out of the days we spent together.
It really lit a fire in me to make my writing dreams a reality. Thank you, Take World.”
